DOKO MAZALIC, painter and scientist was born on April 23, 1888 in Bosanska Kostajnica. From 1910 to 1914 he studied at Budapest Art Academy in the class of professor Tivador Zempleny. Mr. Mazalic exhibited for the first time in 1912 at the 4th Yugoslav Exhibition in Belgrade, Serbia. He participated in the formation and works of artistic “Group of Four” from 1929 to 1930 and artistic group “Circle” from 1935 to 1937. He also voluntarily led Circle group until 1943.
Mr. Mazalic worked as a professor at Sarajevo Gimnasium (1923-1945 and 1946-1953). After WWII he also worked at the Institute for Protection of National Monuments where he retired as senior scientific associate. He received the highest Bosnia Herzegovina Award for his book "Painting art in Bosnia Herzegovina during Turkish period". Mr. Mazalic died in Sarajevo in 1957.
